Reflections on the lake

The most amazing experience was meeting a young couple from Otavalo, with their distinctive costumes, and convince them to pose for a photograph.  Like many Indians, these Quechuas were shy about having their picture taken; but I was able to gain their confidence with my Spanish talk.

The first stop of our trip to South America was Quito, the capital of Ecuador.

We arrived in the morning, after a night flight, and we hit the ground running; we walked around with our cameras excited by the colorful scenes, the street vendors, the magnificent churches.

Then soroche hit us, altitude sickness; we hadn’t realized we were at 9,300 feet!
